Gae Aulenti was one of the most influential and prolific Italian architects and designers of the post-war period. An advocate of the Neoliberty movement, she is remembered for the individual stylistic quality of her work, which spanned product design and major architectural projects. Arguably the crowning glory of Aulenti’s career, and the most famous symbol of her Neoliberty approach, was her elaborate renovation of the Musee d’Orsay. This led to further large-scale projects, such as the renovation of the Palazzo Grassi as an art museum in Venice, and designing a new space for the Pompidou in Paris – examples of her enormous legacy. She has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Grand International Prize at the 1964 Milan Triennial and the Praemium Imperiale in 1991.
The Pileino lamp is a great example of Space Age aesthetic.
