Vintage Design
A large and very richly carved 19th century French walnut Gothic Revival armoire. This stunning cabinet has the most amazing carved details. The extensively carved decorations with the finest details are executed with the best craftsmanship’s skills. The top is decorated with three gargoils /grotesks and has an abat-jour (open work) crown, finished with five pinacles above. The front panels are extensively carved with pointed arches, rosettes and columns. Each panel has its own carved pattern, each roset is different and also the columns on the front have their own special carved pattern. The sides have a linnenfold panel on the top and bottom. The armoire exists of two pieces. The top part houses two adjustable shelves. The bottom part has a large drawer which can turn into a desk by simply unhooking the front panel of the drawer and folding it down. Beneath the drawer another interior with an adjustable shelf. This is an outstanding example of the Gothic Revival movement that conquered Europe in the middle of the 19th century.
