Iconic Paavo Tynell design.
Paavo Tynell (1890-1973) is one of the most important names in Finnish lighting design, and his work has had a significant impact on modern lighting design also on an international level. Tynell, who studied at the Helsinki School of Arts and Crafts and later became a teacher at the school, co-founded the art studio Oy Taito Ab in 1918, where he served as director and chief designer until 1953. In the 1930s and 40s, Tynell was one of the most employed lighting designers for public spaces in Finland, designing luminaires for the Glass Palace in Helsinki, the House of Parliament and the UN Secretary General’s office, among others.
