Rene Bouche Large Oil on Canvas, Vogue Illustrator and Society Portrait Artist

Rene Bouche was born in France in 1906. He worked as a fashion illustrator for French and British Vogue. He came to the United States in 1941 and became a regular contributor to American Vogue until his death in 1963. He was a master of social portraiture and his work is owned by the Whitney Museum, The Museum of Modern Art and Yale University to name a few. His famous subjects included Jacqueline Kennedy, Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz, Helena Rubinstein and Jack Benny.
This large oil on canvas is a portrait of a former 1950’s fashion model and socialite posing with her cats. The work is signed on the front and on the back. Also on the back is the name of subject and it is dated 1959. It is in excellent condition.
