The Uchiwa pendant light, designed by Ingo Maurer for Design M, presents a captivating fusion of tradition and avant-garde, serving as an outstanding example of artistic exploration in the 1970s.
Crafted from six panels of bamboo and rice paper, it exudes a natural elegance and organic grandeur. Each of these panels, skillfully attached to the central, layered bamboo hubs, forms an impressive arrangement reminiscent of a dynamic sculpture rather than a conventional light fixture. The use of bamboo and rice paper creates a soft, diffused light, fostering a tranquil atmosphere. Simultaneously, the intricate shadows cast by the bamboo framework yield additional fascinating effects. The Uchiwa pendant light immediately commands attention in any space. Its uniqueness reflects Ingo Maurer’s design ethos, imparting a touch of exotic charm and a distinctive flair of mid-century design to every room it adorns.
Rare Uchiwa Ju-Yon chandelier in very good condition.
Designed by Ingo Maurer for M design, Germany.
This chandelier is handmade from bamboo and Japanese rice paper.
When lit the lamp gives a beautiful warm light and the fans become semi transparent.
The lamp is connected to the ceiling by three ropes which are adjustable in height.
Ingo Maurer’s interest in paper for lampshades was linked with his interest in Japan. From 1973-1975 he produced various lamps from traditional Japanese fans.
This Ju Yon chandelier is very good condition. Uchiwa pendants are very rarely found in such condition due to their fragility.
